Here at Yorktown Stables we focus on beginner and intermediate students but we welcome all levels of experience.  We specialize in many different disciplines with SAFETY and HORSEMANSHIP being the top priority at Yorktown Stables.                                                 *** Now offering Beginner VAULTING LESSONS by Instructor Katie Lake Call for details!

Your first lesson at the stable will be an INTRODUCTION LESSON to evaluate and assess your riding ability to help us determine which lesson program would be the best fit for you or your child. On your lesson day, you will first come to the stable to fill out all important paperwork. Your instructor will start your introductory lesson by going over Yorktown Stable’s barn rules and etiquette, take you on a short tour of our facility to acquaint you with the all the important locations of the horses, office, stable, tack rooms, brush buckets and all other important areas necessary. You may schedule your next lesson at the end of your introductory lesson. An introductory lesson takes about 1 hour and is $35.

Throughout your first few lessons, you will learn how to safely catch your assigned lesson horse, and then how to groom and saddle him or her correctly. Usually after two or three lessons you will become proficient enough that your entire lesson will be a riding lesson. All students are required to learn or review proper grooming, groundwork, leading and tacking-up prior to riding sessions and are part of your lesson time.

If you have prior experience with horses, please pay particular attention to our grooming and saddling rules. Our horses are used to being handled and groomed in a particular manner and our program sets them up with good manners for groundwork and all that follows.

                            * Two lessons per week are highly recommended to achieve significant progress.

You are welcome to bring 'spectators' for your lesson, but please advise them in advance that they need to observe quietly.  Any distractions -for you or your horse will only impede your progress.

                        Instructors
